Fly to Tokyo with JAL [Japan Airlines] this is a direct flight from Hong Kong.
Stay at the Hotel Grand Palace in Tokyo. Great places to visit are the Japanese Parlimentary Buildings, Meji Shrine [dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort Empress Shoken. The best views of the cityscape can be enjoyed from Tokyo Tower and this is well worth a visit. If you are interested in shopping, visit Ginza shopping district [you could go via Kamakura to see the 90 tonne Bronze statue of the Buddha].
A trip to Tsukiji fish market is apparently a real eye opener, it is the largest fish market in the work and well worth a visit before 5am. If you have time it is also recommend to go to the Japanese Tea Ceremony at Happo-en japanese Garden at the teahouse at the bottom of the garden.
Octopus Balls are apparently a culinary highlight......
Less than 100km from Tokyo is Hakone. This is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park - famous for hot springs, outdoor activities, natural beauty and the view of Mt Fuji. It is one of the most popular destinations with locals and visitors alike. One good tip is that eggs boiled in the hot springs are said to prolong ones life by 7 years - as a result you can by eggs at the springs. Take a relaxing boat ride on Lake Ashi before spending the night at the Palace Hakone Hotel.
Take the famous bullet train to Kyoto and stay at the new Miyake Hotel or Kyoto hotel Okura. Kyoto was the Japanese capital from 794 to 1868. There are countless temples, shrines and other historically priceless structures seen in the city today.
Other areas of interest are Nijo Castle and Kinkakiyi Temple.
Make your way back on the Bullet Train to Tokyo before returning on JAL to Hong Kong.
